By request here are some photos germaine to some of the more heated discussions floatling around the internet lately. Below is a picture of my barrel all chucked up and ready to make chips.
Keep in mind the area that is smooth now will have threads and the area that has threads will be smooth.
Gene Davis did an exellent job of threading the Suhl receiver. Gene built a special jig for theading Suhl receivers.
The picture below shows the threading job that Gene Davis did for the receiver. Unfortunately the threads go all the way to the front of the receiver. This means we need to add an extra step.
The receiver will need to be chucked up and one thread will have to be removed. This is needed to get a proper lock up. A collet will be used and will prevent marring the receiver.
The removing of a thread will allow a correct barrel lock up when the barrel is screwed on. It is impossible to thread all the way to the barrel shoulder.
